Water reservoirs are key infrastructures for efficient water resource management, as they allow large volumes of water to be stored and released according to irrigation, human consumption, energy generation, and other needs. To ensure long-term performance, geosynthetics such as geomembranes or GCLs are integrated into project designs to reduce or prevent infiltration and limit interaction with the underlying soil.
These sustainable solutions not only optimize impermeabilization but also reduce construction timelines and costs compared to traditional alternatives such as reinforced concrete and riprap.

Construction of the Irrigation System – Pallcca Dam, Ayacucho, Peru
As part of the commitment to improving water infrastructure and promoting sustainable agricultural development in the region, the Pallcca Dam constructio project, located in the district of Quinua, Ayacucho, represents a significant advancement in the efficient management of water resources. With an investment of 50 million Peruvian soles and a storage capacity of 1 million cubic meters of water, this irrigation system supplies more than 1,500 hectares of farmland and directly benefits 1,200 farming families from the districts of Quinua and Huamanguilla.
The dam was waterproofed on the upstream face using a geomembrane and protected with an additional concrete-filled geocell layer, an innovative solution that ensures long-term protection and durability of the geomembrane. At the same time, this system optimizes costs and construction schedules compared to conventional solutions such as reinforced concrete and riprap, consolidating itself as a sustainable and efficient technical solution for agricultural development projects.
