This system is designed to control erosion in areas where water flows discharged from culverts are released. The solution combines the use of geocells and energy dissipation blocks, which act complementarily to reduce water velocity, dissipate hydraulic energy, and confine soils and concrete, thereby preventing the loss of natural ground material. Once implemented, this system maintains the stability of road structures, particularly on slopes or critical areas exposed to accelerated erosive processes.

Rural Road – Yurimaguas, Loreto, Peru

Rural Road – Yurimaguas, Loreto, Peru
Along the rural road in Yurimaguas, Loreto, complex geotechnical conditions were identified near culvert areas, where the natural ground consisted of very fine and highly erodible soils. This situation represented a critical risk of material loss and potential road collapse, especially during rainfall events or under continuous flow conditions.
As a definitive solution, the lining of adjacent slopes and the base of the water outlets was designed using geocells. This system provided a flexible micro-slab type protection, offering greater tolerance to differential settlements compared to
conventional rigid structures.
In addition to its technical efficiency, the solution proved to be less vulnerable to vandalism, delivering higher durability and reduced maintenance requirements in demanding rural environments.
