Drainage geocomposites consist of two essential components: a drainage core (geonet) responsible for conveying infiltration or percolation water, and a geotextile that prevents soil particle migration into the drainage core.
This function is critical, as it prevents clogging and subsequent flow loss. These synthetic drainage systems are versatile and can be effectively used in both horizontal and vertical applications. As a result, drainage geocomposites ensure efficient and long-lasting subsurface flow conveyance under diverse geotechnical conditions.
Advantages / benefits
Effective control of hydraulic pressures: Relieves hydrostatic pressures and contributes to structural stability and water conveyance.
Prevention of material loss: Avoids soil particle migration, preserving adjacent soil integrity.
Complementary protection of waterproofing systems: Protects impermeable systems from mechanical damage due to uplift pressures, maintaining long-term performance.
High durability in demanding environments: Resistant to chemical and biological attacks, ensuring reliable performance under harsh conditions.

Riverbank Protection of the La Leche and Motupe Rivers, Lambayeque, Peru
In the Lambayeque region, a riverbank protection project extending over more than 10 km along the La Leche and Motupe rivers implemented drainage geocomposites as an optimal solution for groundwater level control.
These materials were installed at the base of the constructed dikes, enabling efficient subsurface drainage and reducing internal hydrostatic pressure, thereby improving the overall stability of the protection structures.
This solution directly strengthened flood defenses during high-flow events, ensuring more effective protection for adjacent agricultural and urban areas.
