As part of the Interoceanic Highway South megaproject, a concession granted by IIRSA Sur, various technical solutions were implemented to improve the road corridor. Among these was the stabilization of the granular base using slow-setting asphalt emulsion, a technique that improved the material’s cohesion and increased its structural strength.
This intervention was key to ensuring the pavement’s long-lasting performance on this high-traffic road, optimizing its resistance to moisture and contributing to a more stable and resistant base for the upper layers.
On the Challapalca-Apacheta road, base stabilization was carried out using slow-setting asphalt emulsion, in collaboration with the Santa Rosa Consortium. This technical solution improved the structural resistance of the granular layer, ensuring a more cohesive and durable platform for the upper pavement layers.
During the inspection carried out in June 2025, the integrity of the treated section was verified, confirming the effectiveness of the applied treatment under the demanding climatic conditions of the area.
