As part of the Interoceánica Sur megaproject, concessioned by IIRSA Sur, various technical solutions were implemented to improve the road corridor. Among them, the stabilization of the granular base using slow-setting asphalt emulsion was carried out, a technique that improved material cohesion and increased its structural strength.
This intervention was key to ensuring long-lasting pavement performance on a high-demand road, optimizing its behavior against moisture and contributing to a more stable and resilient platform for the upper layers.
On the Challapalca – Apacheta road, base stabilization with slow-setting asphalt emulsion was carried out in collaboration with the Santa Rosa Consortium. This technical solution improved the structural strength of the granular layer, ensuring a more cohesive and durable platform for the upper pavement layers.
During the inspection conducted in June 2025, the integrity of the treated section was verified, confirming the effectiveness of the applied treatment under the area’s demanding climatic conditions.
