This project was executed in Lima on a concession operated by Rutas de Lima, where a discontinuous SMA 8 asphalt mixture was implemented for the first time, recognized for its high performance on high-traffic roads. To enhance its properties, stabilizing additives, adhesion promoters, warm mix technologies, and polymer-modified asphalts were used, resulting in an integrated solution that improves durability, adhesion, and mechanical performance.
A hot mix asphalt layer was placed using a highly polymer-modified asphalt selected to meet the project’s demanding requirements, including heavy traffic, variable climatic conditions, and low operational speeds. This solution increased pavement resistance to fatigue, rutting, and premature aging, ensuring superior performance and extended service life in a high structural demand environment.
